John Earp did many things in Barton County for many years. He was an agent for the Adams Express Company as well as Standard Oil. He was a jeweler, having a shop on the NW corner of the Square and then on the south end of the west side. He was also elected Mayor twice. He was well liked in Lamar and it was generally decided that he was one of the best Mayors Lamar has had.
