Thurman-Snip

Original house built in 1880's by Judge Thurman. His daughter Bess married Braniff airline founder Tom Braniff here in 1912. Thurman later went on to be State Senator from the 28th District. In 1919 this house was destroyed by fire. The current house was built in 1924 by John Snip. It was built of stone from the Snip quarry east of town. The only thing that remains of the old Thurman house is the foundation and the long, winding sidewalk. The Snip family owned the house for over 51 years. It was sold to Leo Wilhelm in 1969. The Wilhelm family owned the house for almost 34 years. They sold it to Robert Textor in September 2003.
