Lamar College

Located at 1606 College and constructed in 1888. Built to attract out of town people It started out as the Missouri Polytechnic Institute and later the Lamar College. In 1905 the college was leased to the Benedictine Sisters of Atchison, KS. They operated it as St. Josephs College until 1910. It stood vacant for many years finally being razed in 1927. The brick and stone were used in the construction of Memorial Hall on the SE corner of the Square. A few houses have come and gone here. The present one is occupied by George Digherio. It was built in around 1956.
